Guide

Home water filtration, explained without the sales pitch.

Residential filtration comes down to two questions: where the filtration happens, and what you want it to improve. Once those are settled, choosing a system is straightforward.

Two places filtration can happen

Point-of-use filtration

The equipment sits at a single fixture, usually under the kitchen sink or behind the refrigerator, and filters only the water that passes through it. Because the volume is small, point-of-use systems can be built around the water a household drinks, cooks with and freezes.

Whole-house filtration

The equipment is installed where water enters the home, so everything downstream draws from filtered water: showers, laundry, the dishwasher, every faucet. It is the approach for people whose goals include bathing water, sediment and general household water, not just the glass on the counter.

Common homeowner goals

Most people arrive with one of a handful of goals. Naming yours is the fastest route to the right system.

  • Better-tasting drinking water

    Usually a point-of-use question first.

  • Chlorine taste or smell

    Addressed by carbon-based filtration stages.

  • Sediment, rust or grit

A whole-house sediment stage is the usual starting point.

  • Water for showers and bathing

    Household-wide filtration, not kitchen filtration.

  • Ice and refrigerator water

    A dedicated refrigerator line.

  • Buying less bottled water

Convenient filtered water at the tap.

Maintenance, honestly

Filters are consumables. Every filtration system, from a pitcher to a whole-house setup, relies on media that gets replaced on a schedule. How often depends on the specific system, the number of stages, and how much water the household uses.

We confirm the replacement interval for the exact configuration installed in your home rather than publishing a general figure that may not apply to your equipment. Ask about it before installation and you'll have the answer in writing for your system.

Two ways forward

Ready for better water?

Some homeowners already know the system they want. Others want a little guidance first. Both are easy.
